How organizations are included

To be listed, an organization must:

  1. Be a 501(c)(3) public charity or a government entity (city, county, public library, parks or public school district).
  2. Have filed with the IRS (Form 990, 990-EZ or 990-N) within the last three years. Government entities and church-affiliated schools, which are not required to file, are exempt.
  3. Be based in Black Hawk County, or have a local office serving it.
  4. Have a working way to give online: a website or giving page, or a fund at the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa, the Waterloo Community Foundation or the Cedar Falls Community Foundation.
  5. Show signs of activity in Black Hawk County within the past year, such as events, programs, news or a recent IRS filing.

Funds and fiscal sponsorships at these community foundations are included when they support a named local organization or project. Some funds support projects that are still forming or paused; for the latest on what a fund supports, contact the foundation that holds it. Faith-based organizations are included when they serve the whole community; churches and houses of worship are not.

Not included: churches; hospitals and colleges; booster clubs, PTAs and other single-school groups; member-benefit, service and adult sports clubs; state or national associations; private foundations.

The list is checked against IRS records once a year. To add or correct a listing, contact Stewardshift. Interest areas are assigned by Stewardshift.

Some organizations on this list are current or past Stewardshift clients. Inclusion is not an endorsement or a ranking. Listings as of September 2026.
